Essential Questions

1. Why did a united Italy make sense to those who favored unification?
The people shared a common language and history, and it also would stimmulated the economy.
OK, but there could be more elaboration here. Too simple, very little thought or explanation put into the answer.

2.What were the obstacles in the way of Italian unification, and why might these obstacles make unification difficult?
Trying to get other nations to join this motion and getting the attention of The Congress of Vienna because without these allies, it would make unifing very difficult.
The text book (p. 338 - first page of Ch. 10 section 3) has a bolded sub-heading titled OBSTACLES TO ITALIAN UNITY which has every answer you would need for this. Not sure how this could be missed.

3.What steps did the Italian leaders take to unify, or ignite nationalist feelings, in the people?
They encouraged change, made the people see the better side of the change they the italian leaders wanted.
No research illustrated here at all. Anybody could have written this response without looking at any text/information source. It is simply a generic answer with zero substance.

4.What military steps were taken in order to free Italian people from oppressive rule?
They recruited 1,000 red-shirted volunteers. Weapons and ships were supplied to attack and control sicily. They took control of Sicily, and went to Napales. Cavour sent troops to deal with Garibaldi. The troops Cavour sent linked up with Garibaldi's troops.
Good

5.What nationalist groups were formed and created in order to strengthen the unification movement?
Giuseppe Garibaldi's "Red Shirts", Victor Emmanuel II, Camillo Cavour
Is this an answer, or did someone put this down in the hopes of coming back and finishing the response??? No mention of Young Italy?

6.What challenges did a united Italy face when they finally were brought together as a nation-state?
There was rivalry between the different reigons of the newly united italy. Mainly the North and South. North was rich and had cities, south was poor and rural.
What about the tensions that were mounting after the unification process? Liberals/radicals were upset, protesting/rioting against the new monarchy (see p. 342 in text)

7.What role did Napoleon play in the Unification of Italy?
Cavour made a deal with Napoleon III. The deal consited of if Italy were to go to war with Austria, France would help Italy. After that Cavour provoked a war with Austria, and with the help of France, Italy won that war. Good

8.Explain the viewpoint of the liberals and the conservatives with regards to Italian Unification.
Many the liberals and conservatives were not happy they ended up moving to the United states.
Is this even an answer at all, or did someone just write something down to make it look like an answer? I looked back in the text to find anything about liberals AND conservatives fleeing for the US, it wasn't in there.

9. How does Nationalism unify the people of the Italian States?
People thought the nationalism made sence it made practicle economic sence.
Once again, this is not an answer. This is just trying to make it look like an answer (even that wasn't done very well), because the wording doesn't even make sense!
